Which is better for woodland battles?

My understanding is that the longer barrels of the AK are better for distance and that the M4 are geared more for QCB.
What is the effective range of these 2 guns?
I'm looking at buying a M4A1 but want to know if I'm going to be outgunned in outdoor combat.

if the muzzle velocity is 300fps the barrel length doesn't matter too much. The range will be exactly the same but the accuracy on the AK MIGHT be better. The quality of the barrel and how well it's lubed etc will matter as much or more than the length. The AK has a better ammo capacity on the standard hicap mags though 600 vs 300. You can fire twice as long on a single mag. That aside they are pretty much the same at 300 imho.

Pretty much doesn't matter.

M4's do have smaller magazines, but are also more compact and easy to run around with, plus the magazines fit in almost any vest pockets, where AK ones need large pouches. Also parts are very easy to come by for both, but the M4 has more upgrade/modification ability.

PLUS, an M4 is a lot better in CQB, so it can serve two purposes equally well.

Personally I would prefer the AK to the m4 simply because the M4 is small. I find it too small to be comfortable. Other than aesthetics they are identical in game. The AK can have a 600 round hicap which gives you twice the ammo before needing to reload. In terms of upgrades the M4 wins over every gun out there. There is simply no upgrade that exists in the real world of guns (or some outside of it...) that you can't find.

In terms of techinal details the M4 has the version 2 gearbox which is said to be weaker then the version 3 in the Ak. Given that we can't go over 300fps in Korea high power upgrades don't really matter. I find that the version 3 gearboxes are easier to fix as they can be tested outside of the receiver. Nothing worse than having to take the whole gun apart again. The AK has a fire selector issue that crops up in most versions. As it ages the lever will stop working due to a loose screw. The m4 doesn't have that problem. The AK uses either a battery in the stock or a stick battery. The M4 depending on the version (especially the RIS versions) may be limited to a small 8.4v battery.
