red dot sights

Other than the "coolness factor", what advantages are there to having some red dot sights installed on my AEG?
I've seen a nice one on Gmarket but I'm wondering whether its worth all the effort and expense.

You see, you put the dot on the target, you shoot. No lining up the two sites (which takes time). It also works much better in low light. I'll let you use my gun for a game this week so you can see the difference.
You will acheive better hit ratios with your first shots which are the most important.

With iron sites not only do you have to look exactly at your target with the front sight, you also have to line up the back sight with the front site and your target, essentially giving you three points to put into alignment in order to shoot accurately. With a dot or reflex site an illuminated dot or image is projected onto a curved lens that reflects it back to your eye directly in line of where the gun will shoot, so if you look through the reflex sight lens you don't have to be lined up perfectly to hit what the dot is pointed at, the dot will move to compensate. This allows you to acquire and engage a target much more accurately and quickly. Since it's illuminated you can also see it clearly at night or in low light conditions.

Try some out next game and see what you think. They aren't for everyone, but I swear by them.

Is red dot sight fall into category of items that you cannot shipped into Korea without risk being seized by the customs?

What about hand carry them , will it safely pass the airport security check ?

Unmagnified red dot sights aren't restricted as far as I know. I ordered a few from ebay for almost nothing. You can also find them for sale all over. It's just magnified optics that are.

edit:Magnified optics are back for sale all over Gmarket now, they were gone for a long time.
