Now back in the day (1999 I think) this rather epic game came out. The basic premis of it was to hire mercenaries and take over a banana republic. It used strategic tactical tun based play (realtime untill combat). The reason it worked so well was the level of administration and tactical gameplay. This consisted of capturing towns, mines, training milita, hiring mercs, order gear online, salvage and repair, training mercs, the list goes on...

The reason I brought this up is the 1.13 mod is up and running for it now and the figured you guys n gals would like it due to the geardo n gun pr0n factor. Also its a bloody good game.

LOVED this game. I still go back and play it once n awhile and about a month ago I was looking at all the mods that had been released. Not sure if it will run on my Vista-based laptop though.

I found through messing about at a mates you can get the 1.13 mod to work on vista. Heres the instructions:

Install JA2, install the v1.06 patch and then the 1.13 mod on a system that is running xp. Copy the entire file over to the vista pc. It should run fine after that. For some reason it doesnt like running from a direct install onto vista. I was able to test it out using this method and it works for windows 7 also :)

On a side note, 1.13 is awsome as your mercs carry capacity is effected by their gear such as vests etc. And it added over 500 new weapons. Which is quite nice if you like recreating loadouts :o

If you have any problems or queries I'll happily try and help.

Basically the 1.13 mod is a total rejig of the JA2. It adds a fair bit more depth and detail. It gives you a helluva lot more options to play with, in addition it is a lot more difficult (I didn't realise insane mode would be insane:o). You could probably download it off the bears pit forums. Last time I checked it the 1.13 was about 80mb due to all the extra sound effects and items etc.

In the otions did you remeber to put higher angle grenade lauchers and full equipment drops?

A few wee things I discovered that might be handy:
You can merge ACOG sights and reflex sights
If you merge a rag, petrol and alcohol to get petrolbombs
Copper wire + watch = detenator
You can make up to 6 IMP mercs
If you go into the editor you can change the min-max for IMP creation
fivesevens and gyurzas are the muts nuts as sidearms
The large binoculars are very useful

I didn't do the grenade angle thing, wasn't sure what it did (still not sure and I can't seem to find the option again!).

Basically it gives them a longer range, but gives them a minimum range due to the firing arc. It makes them actually usful as they shoot about 30. I think is in the big options page somewhere :o

What what mercs do you usually roll with? I always find it interesting to see how folk aproach the game :)

I made 3 IMP's. One I messed up because I gave her lock picking and then ZERO Mechanical (I'm just now starting to teach her Mech) lol I use her mainly as a sniper (AWM!) along with Raven. My two other IMP's usually take point, they do any CQB and mop up clearance with Raider. Ira took a shot to the head and was killed instantly.

Heh, funky.
I usually run a nightops squad (Igor, Grunty, stephen and IMP), an artillery team (Bull, Grizzly, Stogie) and a day ops team led by Ivan (being the kill train of doom he is).
Funnily enough the army has starting using mortars n RPGs now. This caused Dimitri to asplode:o due to him carrying alot of grenades.

For some reason it won't let me equip the ghillie suit, even after removing ALL items. Quite frustrating. Also I put an order in to Bobby Ray's and some bug occurred where I got triple everything when the shipment came in!

Ahah! I had that problem at first. The trick is to attach it to the armour like the helmet covers and underarmour shirts. Hope that helps :)
Lol, shipping error in your favour: Gain 3 x Barret M68's and more 6.8 ammo than you know what to do with;)

Won't let me attach to to the shirt, but I can put it on over my helmet, armour and pants. Really thought I could just wear it on its own heh
